32.Toothache
From Nov 17, for “no reason” I had a sudden toothache. Till the third day after acupressure and acupuncture showed little effect, I had to take it seriously for I couldn’t sleep at night due to the pain and when my post-Thanksgiving holiday schedule approaching, I Was afraid the pain might ruin it.
So I went to a dentist who showed me the image saying the crown is so thin that make the nerve sensitive and he suggested my going to another dentist to get the nerve killed and come back for crowning the tooth. The budget? $2000 for self-pay. That would kill me.
I could sleep for three days and the left side of the jaw got swollen and it’s time I have to take care of it myself. I took little herbs targeting my Administerial Fire at first because the pain waked me up in the early morning and the pain decreased but came back, then I thought it might because of the fire at stomach due to spicy food I had in the past few days. I seemed worked but didn’t last long. Finally, I believed it was the Spleen related to Administerial Fire. I changed the formula and the pain gradually go away. Till now about 20 hours passed and the pain has not come back. I can chew and drink hot water without any problem. The pain is from 5/10 down to 1/10 or less. And yet the gum is still swollen.
The reason it took me a longer time to locate the problem is TCM have different opinions on which channels going through the gum where the pain lies. I finally I believed the problem is spleen related was I felt a dull pain or tight on the rear left side of the ribs, a place just where the spleen lies.
The Chinese medicine believes when the Yin is so low to hold the Yang down, the body will be governed by Administerial Fire, a floating Yang will go the weakest point of your body and you will have a sensitive feeling there. The treatment uses herbs to kill the fire directly or tonify the Yin to enhance its capability to hold the Yang down, just like a wife is weak and the husband would go away. You can either punch him back to his home or beautify the wife to draw the husband homewards. The case showed the interpretation of the principle of TCM, the union of Nature and Humanity.
We often heard of patients complained they got the teeth pulled out and the pain still there. The craziest case I ever heard was a patient got all his teeth pulled out under the suggestion of the dentist, the pain remained even not less. TCM believe the teeth are your organs and you should not remove them unless it’s the only way to remove your pain.
